The intentional humiliation and torture at Abu Ghraib, combined with the large numbers of people held at Guantánamo for years with no access to attorneys, with no charges filed and no access to families, led many in the U.S. Foreign Service to conclude that U.S. actions were unethical and in violation of the minimal standards of decency codified in U.S. and international law.\n Society's beliefs and values affect all people's views of their individual lives.
